This army
battery was installed southwest of Maisy, at a place called Les
Perruques.
Far
more powerful than its neighbour at La Martinière, it had six 155-mm guns
installed in concrete pits.
Because of the
range of these guns, it represented a major threat to the American
troops about to land on the eastern Cotentin coast. It was therefore
copiously bombed in the night of June 5th-6th
(nearly 600 tonnes dropped by more than a hundred aircraft).Even so, it was still able to open fire on June 6th on the
southern part of the Utah Beach sector. It was eventually silenced by
the guns of the British cruiser Hawkins.
