The German
army battery at Villerville, in a place called Les Bruyères, was
composed of six 155-mm guns. Its range-finding post was located in a
former farmhouse that had been turned into a blockhouse. It was the key
element in the defence of the southern part of the Seine Estuary.

Because it had
been extensively damaged by aerial and naval bombardment, and was, in
any case a considerable distance from the landing zone, it played no
part whatsoever in the events of D-Day.
