In the night
of June 14th-15th, the town was crushed beneath a
carpet of bombs dropped by the RAF, just as other British aircraft were
destroying the few buildings that were still standing in
Aunay-sur-Odon.
The intention of the British High Command was to destroy all the
region’s road junctions, as a concentration of German armour had been
spotted in the region and it feared a counter-attack.
