at around 8.20 pm, bombs fell on the station district, killing around

As a result,
they were taken completely by surprise when British bombers arrived in
the night of June 6th-7th. In the space of about
twenty minutes, their bombs reduced the Saint-Désir district to rubble,
while the rest of the town was also damaged. Whole families perished
beneath the ruins or were burned alive. In the course of this tragic
night, more than 700 people were killed. |
