Located in the
middle of the countryside, south of the village of Ver, the Marefontaine
battery comprised four Czech 100-mm guns housed in casemates.

On June 6th 1944, it was severely damaged by salvoes from the
cruiser Belfast and its garrison, who had suffered badly,
surrendered without a fight to British troops advancing inland.
