With
its 47 graves, Chouain is the smallest British cemetery in Normandy.
Most of the soldiers buried here were killed in the early stages of the
battle of Tilly-sur-Seulles, near Chouain brook. After being temporarily
interred in the hamlet of Jérusalem, their remains were transferred to a
site near Belval farm, where some of their comrades had already been
laid to rest.
