The
cemetery at Saint-Manvieu holds a total of 2,183 graves – those
of 1,623 British soldiers, 3 Canadians and 1 Australian,
as well as 556 German soldiers.
These
men fell during the bloody clashes west of Caen in June and July 1944,
including the battle of Tilly-sur-Seulles, the battle of the Odon and
the capture of Carpiquet.
