The museum evokes the bitter fighting which took place during the first three weeks after D Day in the communities of Tilly-sur-Seulles, Lingèvres, Cristot, Boislonde, Saint-Pierre, Audrieu, Hottot-les-Bagues, Villers-Bocage, between Bayeux and Caen.
The visitor will follow, day by day and hour by hour, the infantry and armoured combat which unfolded on the Tilly Front, between the 30th British Army Corps and two elite SS Panzer Divisions, right in the heart of the civilian population. Taken and re-taken 23 times during a month by the opposing sides, the village of Tilly-sur-Seulles was almost 70% destroyed and lost 10% of its population during this particularly violent battle.

In the shadow of the 12th century chapel, which itself suffered during the battle, this museum is at the heart of history itself. The use of witness accounts, photographs and objects recovered from the battlefi eld not only portrays a genuine historical presentation but bestows an air of reverence as well. This museum also helps the visitor to understand the degree of loss suffered by the civilian residents during the Liberation of Normandy.
