The Château de Balleroy was built in 1631 for Jean de Choisy. It is the earliest surviving work of the celebrated architect, François Mansart, father of the classical revival in France. Designed by the 33 years old Mansart, the village is an essay in town planning which inspired the later work at Versailles.
In 1970, Malcolm S. Forbes purchased Balleroy for the family's media company. Since then the château and outlying buildings have undergone extensive restoration and refurbishment.
Today the work continues under the direction of his four sons.
